He also pressed for improved emergency responses to hurricanes and other natural disasters and proposed a neighborhood gun buyback program to improve public safety. The WOSB Integrity Act of 2024 would require the Small Business Administration (SBA) and third-party certifying entities to take reasonable action to verify that women-owned small businesses meet the SBA’s small business size standards for receiving federal contracts. “The WOSB Integrity Act of 2024 would help numerous women business owners across the country. With the increased transparency of the WOSB contracting program, more women-owned small businesses can benefit from federal contracts and without any extra burden placed upon them,” said Ann Marie Wallace, state director for the Women’s Business Center of Utah. This bipartisan bill is designed to ensure federal contracting dollars intended for women-owned small businesses (WOSBs) are awarded to those firms that meet the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) small business size standards.

U.S. Congressional Districts

Adam's top priority is to create economic opportunity for everyone – especially working families. Adam has always believed that small businesses are the true engine of growth, and he continues to fight to enact tax relief for small businesses, create good-paying jobs, and restore America as a manufacturing powerhouse. He was an early advocate for the expansion of Medi-Cal to ensure low-income children and families, pregnant women, and people with disabilities have access to free or low-cost quality health care in the state of California. Adam also is a cosponsor of Medicare for All and continues to fight for expanded access to health care for all.

Elections

In the 2022 elections, Republicans took back control of the House, winning a slim majority. A further dominating element of House organization is the committee system, under which the membership is divided into specialized groups for purposes such as holding hearings, preparing bills for the consideration of the entire House, and regulating House procedure. Almost all bills are first referred to a committee, and ordinarily the full House cannot act on a bill until the committee has “reported” it for floor action. There are approximately 20 standing (permanent) committees, organized mainly around major policy areas, each having staffs, budgets, and subcommittees. They may hold hearings on questions of public interest, propose legislation that has not been formally introduced as a bill or resolution, and conduct investigations. Among important standing committees are those on appropriations, on ways and means (which handles matters related to finance), and on rules.

Since 1993, the Legislature has hosted a web or FTP site in one form or another. The two-term limit tradition was maintained unofficially for 132 years. Franklin Roosevelt was re-elected in 1944 for a fourth term amidst the United States' engagement in World War II but died shortly afterwards in office.

The delegates and resident commissioner possess the same powers as other members of the House, except that they may not vote when the House is meeting as the House of Representatives. The U.S. House of Representatives has chosen the winner of a presidential election on two occasions—1800 and 1824. Special elections will be held during the 118th Congress to replace members of Congress who leave office for any reason. The House of Representatives shares equal responsibility for lawmaking with the U.S.

He led the House impeachment inquiry and served as the Lead Impeachment Manager during the first Senate impeachment trial of President Donald J. Trump. He also served as a member of the January 6th Select Committee. After Adam graduated from Harvard, he moved to Los Angeles to serve as a law clerk for Judge William Matthew Byrne, Jr.  Adam later joined the U.S.

Special elections

The allocation of seats is based on the population within the states, and membership is reapportioned every 10 years, following the decennial census. House members are elected for two-year terms from single-member districts of approximately equal population. The Constitution empowers the House of Representatives to impeach federal officials for "Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors" and empowers the Senate to try such impeachments. The House may approve "articles of impeachment" by a simple majority vote; however, a two-thirds vote is required for conviction in the Senate.

The presiding officer sits in a chair in the front of the House chamber. The powers of the presiding officer are extensive; one important power is that of controlling the order in which members of the House speak. No member may make a speech or a motion unless they have first been recognized by the presiding officer. Moreover, the presiding officer may rule on a "point of order" (a member's objection that a rule has been breached); the decision is subject to appeal to the whole House. Representatives are usually identified in the media and other sources by party and state, and sometimes by congressional district, or a major city or community within their district. For example, Democratic representative Nancy Pelosi, who represents California's 11th congressional district within San Francisco, may be identified as "D–California", "D–California–11" or "D–San Francisco".

What's a Select Committee?

The term of the replacement member expires on the date that the original member's would have expired. During the first half of the 19th century, the House was frequently in conflict with the Senate over regionally divisive issues, including slavery. The North was much more populous than the South, and therefore dominated the House of Representatives.

The presiding officer is the Speaker of the House, who is elected by the members thereof. Other floor leaders are chosen by the Democratic Caucus or the Republican Conference, depending on whichever party has more voting members. With the advanced age of some U.S. political leaders in the spotlight, 79% of Americans favor maximum age limits for elected officials in Washington, D.C. And 74% support such limits for Supreme Court justices, according to a new Pew Research Center survey. The United States is divided into 435 congressional districts, each with a population of about 710,000 individuals. Each district elects a representative to the House of Representatives for a two-year term. Americans in the United States’s six territories are represented in the House of Representatives by an additional six non-voting delegates.

This service will assist you by matching your ZIP code to your congressional district, with links to your member's website and contact page. During the Civil War, the Constitution of the Confederate States limited its president to a single six-year term. Only Jefferson Davis served as Confederate president, but he did not complete a full term in office before surrendering to the Union. Usually, these committees will make recommended changes to these pieces of legislation, before voting on whether or not to forward them to the entire House of Representatives or Senate for a vote. Interestingly, although the Senate is sometimes referred to as the “upper body,” and the House as the “lower body,” the two legislative bodies hold the same amount of power within the U.S. system.

Term limits for state officials have existed since colonial times. In the United States, term limits restrict the number of terms of office an officeholder may serve. At the federal level, the president of the United States can serve a maximum of two four-year terms, limited by the 22nd Amendment to the United States Constitution. Some State government offices are also term-limited, including executive, legislative, and judicial offices. The House is also served by several officials who are not members. The House's chief such officer is the clerk, who maintains public records, prepares documents, and oversees junior officials, including pages until the discontinuation of House pages in 2011.

A scenario where Trump manages to make inroads with those voters would favor Duarte, Wasserman said. Still, culture war issues are likely to take a backseat to the bread-and-butter economic matters driving daily discourse in the bulk of the district, including inflation, the cost of housing and the extreme commutes that many bedroom community residents face. Public safety and immigration will also likely factor into the campaign. The majority of the district remains on Calvert’s home turf of the Inland Empire, but the desert additions now give it one of the largest concentrations of LGBTQ+ voters in the nation.

How do engineers do that? An interactive introduction to the engineering design process for secondary age school pupils

steps of the engineering design process

Justifying decisions is an essential part of the design process as it helps to ensure that the final product meets the required specifications and functions as intended. By justifying each decision, engineers can also communicate their thought process to others involved in the project, such as clients, stakeholders, or team members, and gain their trust and support. Students are given a biomedical engineering challenge, which they solve while following the steps of the engineering design process. In a design lab environment, student groups design, create and test prototype devices that help people using crutches carry things, such as books and school supplies. The engineering design process is a series of steps that guides engineering teams as we solve problems. The design process is iterative, meaning that we repeat the steps as many times as needed, making improvements along the way as we learn from failure and uncover new design possibilities to arrive at great solutions.

Design Methodologies

Once you have completed your test phase, you’ll have to make a final decision on your design. You must take all your data from the test phase into account and arrive at an appropriate solution. If you’re unsatisfied with the results of your testing, return to the previous steps of the process and try again. The third step in the design process is usually dedicated to research. This is where you can further develop your ideas, while understanding what has succeeded or failed in similar projects in the past.

Build a Prototype

Students apply their knowledge of constructing and programming LEGO® MINDSTORMS® robots to create sumobots—strong robots capable of pushing other robots out of a ring. To meet the challenge, groups follow the steps of the engineering design process and consider robot structure, weight and gear ratio... Review the engineering design loop by conducting the pre-activity assessment described in the Assessment section. This asks the teams to engage in a 10-minute design challenge and record their efforts to complete each step in the process. As a class, discuss any questions that arise about the design loop. The next step is establishing the specifications our solution will have, and the requirements needed for the proper functioning of such.

Identify the Problem

Use the "return to top" button to return to the diagram for more exploration. To conclude, conduct the post-activity assessment described in the Assessment section to help students relate the project to some aspect of their own lives. This role-reversal exercise asks students to imagine they are members of the target population and develop three questions that they would ask the project engineers. Divide the class into groups that will keep the same team members throughout the design project (all six activities). As we have outlined our specifications and requirements, we have also gained a thorough understanding of what the problem represents and what the solution would be. This is the step where we choose the best solution and start developing a plan to carry it out.

Gaining insight into who or what the problem affects directly will help us find a solution. We also need to know what alternatives already exist and that are trying to solve the same problem we are. Identifying what has worked before, what hasn’t, and what could be of additional help is key. The Science Buddies Engineering Challenge is an annual challenge for students in grades K-12. Each year, students are presented with an engineering challenge that uses a limited number of materials.

By activity end, they are able to control LEDs and motors wirelessly using Arduino microcontrollers and XBee shields. Students work through an online tutorial on MIT's App Inventor to learn how to create Android applications. Using those skills, they create their own applications and use them to collect data from an Android device accelerometer and store that data to databases. Students are introduced to the biomechanical characteristics of helmets, and are challenged to incorporate them into designs for helmets used for various applications.

Activity Extensions

Students develop an app for an Android device that utilizes its built-in internal sensors, specifically the accelerometer. The goal of this activity is to teach programming design and skills using MIT's App Inventor software (free to download from the Internet) as the vehicle for learning. Students apply the concepts of conduction, convection and radiation as they work in teams to solve two challenges.

Working as if they are engineers who work for (the hypothetical) Build-a-Toy Workshop company, students apply their imaginations and the engineering design process to design and build prototype toys with moving parts. The product design teams use the engineering design process during the design and development of new products. It is different from the scientific method that involves making observations by doing experiments. Problem definition is the first, and arguably the most important, among engineering design process steps.

Artist and engineer, Theo Jansen, sees both disciplines as working hand-in-hand. Use your research as a springboard, but don’t adhere to the structures of previous projects. Allow yourself to find creative steps and solutions that others haven’t considered. As nuclear engineer and theoretical physicist, Freeman Dyson, once pointed out, the ideal is to work with a few ideas as possible. The second step in the design process is defining and streamlining your goals for the project.

Prototyping is crucial for validating the engineering design before it goes into full-time production. Due to the complex nature of engineering design projects, mistakes are expected to occur. The prototyping stage sifts out such design flaws and allows designers to improve the design over iterations.

The process is iterative and can be repeated many times over allowing for further improvements before a final design is converged upon. Practical skills will be developed through hands-on exercises covering the entire design process, from conceptualization and analysis to prototyping and evaluation. Additionally, participants will learn to leverage modern engineering tools and software to enhance both the creative and technical aspects of their projects. Students are introduced to the concept and steps of the engineering design process and taught how to apply it. In small groups, students learn of their design challenge (improve a cast for a broken arm), brainstorm solutions, are given materials and create prototypes.

Big Bolt makes the best bolts and fasteners to ensure that your product's various components remain intact. The internet is bursting with resources to help you rock the EDP teaching game. From free STEM lessons to engaging activities and handy instructional videos, it’s all just a click away. Science writer, Steven Johnson, has spoken about breaking the isolation of the engineering process. There comes a time when you must present all of your findings, as clearly as possible, and allow your design to exist outside of your own imagination.

Students design and develop a useful assistive device for people challenged by fine motor skill development who cannot grasp and control objects. In the process of designing prototype devices, they learn about the engineering design process and how to use it to solve problems. In this activity, students work to solve the problems of a local popsicle shop while learning how scientific and engineering concepts play a part in behind-the-scenes design. Engineering is formulating a problem that can be solved through design.

But other questions still had to be answered in this step, like how much weight it will need to hold, how big it will be, and what material it should be made out of. Fasteners are designed to hold different parts in place, ensuring that whatever you are building remains intact during use. Comprehensive product analysis is essential for measuring the product's success. User feedback is one of the most important aspects of product analysis.

To support their design work, they learn about materials properties, energy types and conservation o... In this activity, students design and build model houses, then test them against various climate elements, and then re-design and improve them. Using books, websites and photos, students learn about the different types of roofs found on various houses in different environments throughout the world.... Many times the solution to a problem involves designing a product (like a machine or computer code) that meets certain criteria and/or accomplishes a certain task. This process is different from the Steps of the Scientific Method, which you may be more familiar with.

They simulate the cook stove scenario and follow the engineering design process steps, including iterative trials, to increase warmth inside a building while reducing air quality problems. Video lesson, Science Buddies teaches students about the engineering design process. The video lesson guides students in a hands-on activity in which they need to develop paper airplanes that meet certain requirements.

Possibly the most well-known name in all night steaks, Pacific Dining Car on 6th St. has been sizzling up steaks 24/7 since 1921. The interior still matches the name, too, complete with faux luggage racks and the wood-paneled feel of dining car days gone by. Everyone asks the same question upon entering this Santa Monica establishment, “How long has this place been here? ” Since 1949, the Golden Bull has served stellar chops in an old-school dining room with serious Mad Men vibes, stiff drinks, and friendly service. Golden Bull is also one of the few places on the Westside that serves prime rib roast every night.

One of the features of a Chuck’s Steak House has always been the casual, friendly atmosphere. Another was the self-serve salad bar, which at the time was a relatively new idea. Yet another is or was the simple menu, which at times has fit on the side of a little cask on your table.

Study the interior (while acknowledging tiki culture’s troubling past) and order the coconut fried shrimp, marbly coulotte steak topped with butter, or the Nebraska Angus ribeye with a side of creamed corn. A legendary Hollywood Blvd. haunt, Musso & Frank Grill has been cutting steaks since 1919. The decor hasn’t changed much since then, and the waiters still wear those bright red jackets, but for pure charm (and a great bar), it’s hard to beat.

We have a range of expertly prepared cuisine, perfect for fine dining, corporate events, special occasions and more casual fare inside Riddle’s Tavern. One reviewer raves about the oysters on the half shell, while another loved the meatloaf with carrots, mashed potatoes, and brown gravy. I went to at least three steak places that tried to replicate Chuck’s down to the nth degree…and they usually managed to get everything right except for that rice. Tiki has been alive and well in Glendale since the 1930’s, at Damon’s Steak House. The prime rib is still the draw here, though the outrageously neon interior is its own reason to go. Or, rather, reverts back to the 1950’s, when Baked Alaska, pepper steaks and hand-spun salads hit each table, and the room looks like a plastic jungle of fake foliage.

Buckley's Great Steaks

Experience exquisite wines, the freshest seafood, the finest prime steak, and genuine service. Overall, Buckley's Great Steaks has received a 4.7 out of 1194 reviews, with many praising the exceptional quality of the cuisine and professional service. With the option for dine-in, curbside pickup, and no delivery, Buckley's Great Steaks is a must-try for steak lovers in the Merrimack area. Whether it’s a date night or a fun family night out, you will be sure to find the perfect steakhouse for you. Though Damon’s opened in 1937, it didn’t move to its current Brand Avenue location until 1980. Inside and out, it’s pure kitsch at Damon’s, where bartenders prepare potent mai tais with a proprietary recipe.

A little over 10 years ago, Chi Spacca became LA’s first meat-curing facility to be certified by the Department of Public Health. This Italian restaurant specializes in bistecca Fiorentina, a 50-ounce dry-aged prime porterhouse. For those intimidated by that massive size, there’s the crostata alla Fiorentina, a prime dry-aged, bone-in New York steak that registers only 36 ounces. Don’t forget to share the famous focaccia di recco to start, a cheesy flatbread perfected by chef Nancy Silverton.

Richly marbled and perfectly cooked steaks are some of life's greatest pleasures. Thankfully, Los Angeles has no shortage of fantastic steakhouses, with top-tier restaurants serving inventive and classic cocktails and always delicious sides in addition to all kinds of grilled red meat. If classic chophouses, modern beef palaces, or spots that serve dashes of Japanese flavors, here are 14 feast-worthy steakhouses in Los Angeles. Chef David LeFevre’s midcentury modern steakhouse uses a white oak grill to deliver outstanding steaks in Manhattan Beach. The Arthur J steak menu falls into two primary categories — USDA prime and certified Angus — though one can also score a deluxe Japanese wagyu beef rib-eye cap. Every night features a nightly special, including a veal parmesan on Wednesdays and comforting beef stroganoff on Mondays.

Our exceptional quality cuisine and professional service will gratify all your guests and form a memorable evening. There used to be a number of Chuck’s Steak Houses in Los Angeles and I miss ’em. There are still Chuck’s around — the nearest one seems to be in Santa Barbara — but they do not seem to be a chain, exactly. They seem to be independently-owned places opened with the blessing (and perhaps, financial participation) of this guy Chuck.

The Buckley School is a college preparatory day school for students in grades kindergarten through 12. Founded in 1933 by Isabelle Buckley, the school is located in Sherman Oaks in the San Fernando Valley portion of Los Angeles, California, in the United States. Buckley is one of the oldest co-educational day schools in the Los Angeles area. From the reviews, it's clear that Buckley's Great Steaks is a great choice for a variety of dining experiences. The Record Plant burned down one night and I have a feeling that contributed to Chuck’s exit from that area. But maybe the Chuck’s people just decided to give up on Los Angeles because that’s what they did.

In fact, the Smoke House’s menu is one of the best deals in town, especially the tri-tip sandwich for $22. Head to the top floor of Eataly in Century City Terra and take a moment to observe the sprawling views with a whiff of smoky flavors emanating from the grill. Always take recommendations from Terra’s seasoned staff, but it’s best to start with burrata, grilled bread, and salads before moving on to grilled fish and meat skewers. The flavorful culotte bistecca and thin bone-in tagliatan are beautifully served on a cutting board. Or opt for the 45-day dry-aged wagyu tomahawk that should feel the entire table. Longer dry aging means more concentrated flavor, sharper aroma similar to aged cheese and meaty texture.

Chef Akira Back suggests to enjoy our steaks with our various homemade salts and condiments to enhance the flavor. Located at 438 Daniel Webster Hwy in Merrimack, Buckley's Great Steaks is a high-end steakhouse that offers wood-grilled steaks and seafood in a polished yet warm setting. With a rustic, casual tavern, Buckley's Great Steaks provides a distinguished setting for any occasion. Chuck was Chuck Rolles, a former All-American basketball player who opened his first restaurant in Hawaii in 1959. You could get a good steak, a baked potato or rice and a trip to the salad bar for a reasonable price, and you didn’t have to get all dressed up.

I liked the food there tremendously, especially the rice that came with your steak. You could substitute a baked potato for a few bucks more but the rice was so good, most people learned not to. Buckley’s — family owned and operated since 1972 — is home to a vibrant restaurant, bar, and first-class catering hall.

On the second floor of the towering Intercontinental Hotel in Downtown LA is chef Shin Thompson’s meat emporium serving high-end yakiniku and omakase for Japanese beef aficionados. Burbank’s 77-year-old Smoke House is a time capsule with red leather booths, white tablecloths, a carpet that’s likely decades old, neon signs, and so much casual charm. The slow-roasted prime rib is the house specialty and is served au jus for a reasonable $42.

The main draw is an eight-ounce filet, bone-in tomahawk, but the wagyu flight showcasing two-ounce portions from the US, Australia, and Japan is equally great. A busy option in Venice Beach for steak lovers, American Beauty excels because of its menu, ample outdoor seating, casual manner, and striking midcentury space on Rose Avenue. Stop in for cocktails, dry-aged porterhouses, thick grilled bacon, and stuffed hash browns with melted onions and sour cream.

‘Nope’ Alien Design: How Jellyfish and ’90s Anime Inspired Jordan Peele’s New Monster

Nope is now available for digital purchase, so you can enjoy the movie’s alien, a.ka. Occulonimbus edoequus, if you’d like to get specific with the name of Nope‘s alien name, to the fullest extent. The release includes behind-the-scenes featurettes like bloopers and deleted scenes. But there’s also “Call Him Jean Jacket,” which explores the science behind the design of this new alien species and shows off Nope’s stunning concept art. In a scene late in Nope, Michael Wincott’s gravel-voiced cinematographer Antlers Holst ironically recites lyrics from Sheb Wooley’s 1958 comedy rock song “The Purple People Eater” while Antlers and the protagonists devise their plot to lure Jean Jacket out of hiding in order to get a coveted “Oprah shot” of extraterrestrial life. While Jean Jacket isn’t purple, doesn’t manifest anything resembling a horn, and certainly doesn’t seem motivated by anything close to a love of rock n’ roll, it definitely demonstrates a preference for food that’s not “too tough” — unlike the horse statue it devours and subsequently belches out partway through the film.

A New Kind of Day-for-Night Cinematography

The result is a monster that terrifies and kills without true malice, a beautiful animal simply living the life nature meant it to live. However, if you were watching "Nope" and felt like one aspect of the film felt pretty familiar, then your intuition was likely correct. When the alien nicknamed Jean Jacket reveals its true form towards the end of the movie, it is a frightening yet oddly beautiful sight that feels almost biblical.

Rocheron and the wizards at MPC might have gotten one chance, but they certainly knocked it out of the park on “Nope,” a movie that combined so many disciplines, introduced new technology and relied on some tried-and-true methods, to create another scary, thoughtful Jordan Peele experience. They could just shoot it day-for-night, a process during which you film the sequences during the day and then, while the film is in post, you put a filter over it or alter it in some other process, to appear darker.

The next day, Em attempts to recruit famed cinematographer Antlers Holst to help them record the UFO. Holst declines, not wanting to encourage Em in what he sees as an endless pursuit of wealth and fame. Angel then arrives and reveals that a cloud in the valley never moves; OJ suspects this is the UFO's hiding place before theorizing, based on the UFO's flight patterns, that it is not a ship at all. Peele officially announced his then-untitled third directorial film in November 2020.

It’s only when OJ spots a silver disc shimmering through the sky above his ranch — an eerily magical stretch of air that Crayola might call “Day-for-Night Periwinkle” — that he finds his feet again. If no one wants to shoot real horses anymore, he’ll show the world something that it’s never seen before. And so begins a UFO story that’s less interested in killing the alien than it is in capturing it on camera, even when the desire to see it might be strong enough to devour a city whole. “It’s one thing to come up with a design, but the form serves the function,” Rocheron explained.

The inspirations behind the monster in Nope

After the filmmaker played around with a few horror ideas thus far, there’s something ballsy to be said about his decision to go back to the drawing board in a sense with Nope’s more science fiction leaning. Now that there’s been some time for many of us to experience the flick, I want to talk about why I loved the alien story at the center of Nope, even though seeing it play out really threw me off too. "Even if you think about it as an alien, an alien is still an organism that has evolved through its own environment and through the same rules of evolution as us in a certain way," Rocheron says when we asked if a concrete explanation for Jean Jacket was ever discussed behind-the-scenes. In a way, this bait-and-switch is not that dissimilar from the one that Peele often uses in his work.

Jellyfish, squids, and other real-life aquatic creatures

It’s Peele’s simplest and most straightforward picture yet, thankfully absent the convoluted mythology that bogged down his 2019 sophomore effort “Us,” or the ham-fisted moralizing that marred his script for Nia DaCosta’s “Candyman” reboot last year. “Nope” is a throwback to funny Friday night fright flicks like “Tremors” or “Signs,” an audience picture full of good, old-fashioned jump scares and blessed with an economy of scale. I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to see a summer sci-fi blockbuster in which the fate of the world isn’t hanging in the balance. This one all boils down to a few colorful characters trying to take a photograph without getting eaten by a monster. Does that have anything to do with all of the horses Jupe’s been trying to buy lately?

How The Nope Alien Story Exceeded Those Expectations

The fake manuscript will take the form of a coffee table book with a cover that looks like the journal “Nature,” one of the world’s top scientific journals. “Jean Jacket’s” scientific name will be “Occulonimbus edoequus,” which means “hidden dark cloud, stallion-eater” in Latin. At this rate, it’s unclear if he even could keep it; OJ is too sad to do the job right, leaving his super-extroverted little sister Emerald (Keke Palmer) to keep Haywood Hollywood Horses from being put out to pasture. When designing the character, they looked at old photos and footage of chimpanzees who worked in Hollywood.

Introduced in the series' twelfth episode, this Angel is one that can rapidly expand and has a very wide wingspan with an unblinking eye in the middle. It also has the ability to completely shut down technology in the areas it is hovering over. Of course, there are some major design changes between Sahaquiel and Jean Jacket, but the influence that this specific Angel likely had is loud and clear.

TheWrap spoke to visual effects supervisor Guillaume Rocheron from visual effects house MPC, about how some of “Nope’s” most unforgettable moments came to life. Emerald, on the other hand, is much more outgoing, vivacious, and a little reckless, constantly rocking "outfits that are mixing bright, poppy, oversized T-Shirts, but with cowboy boots, Western belts, and leather vests," Bovaird adds. "We like putting stories into why they end up wearing what they're wearing. There's a lot of backstory with Emerald that wasn't necessarily shown, where she's kind of drifting and hasn't really found her purpose. She also takes things from people that she’s staying with, so her costumes are supposed to be just a mix of things."

According to the production notes for the film, this final reveal is highly influenced by the antagonists in the classic anime, Neon Genesis Evangelion. For the first hour of the movie, the Nope alien is your standard flying saucer. It’s a simple, classic UFO design—a flat disc with a hemisphere on top—that harkens back to ’50s sci-fi films and Fox Mulder’s “I Want to Believe” poster. Having said that, “Nope” is also the least confrontational movie that Peele has made so far, its social criticism diffused to the brink of abstraction and joyfully couched in the kind of nervous laughter suggested by its title (which somehow gets funnier every time one of the characters says it aloud). Despite a few moments of deliberately conspiratorial handholding — including a winky scene in which someone announces that “we’re being surveilled by an alien species I call ‘The Viewer’” — it takes a minute to connect the dots between the various things that Peele is doing here. In the United States and Canada, Nope was projected to gross around $50 million from 3,785 theaters in its opening weekend.[2] It made $19.5 million on its opening day, including $6.4 million (down 14% from the $7.4 million earned by Peele's 2019 film Us) from Thursday night previews.

It's really cool to see the analogy between feeding time in my lab, when we put little tiny baby shrimp in there and they all get pulled and caught with the tentacles, versus what you see at the end of the movie, that same type of unfurling of Jean Jacket. Obviously, it's science fiction, but in most cases, you could come up with plausible ways in which Jean Jacket could do what it did in the movie. I hope there'll be a director's cut later on, because there's some really cool scenes outside of what you see in the two-hour six-minute runtime theater version, that I think are also really awesome. Jean Jacket is one of the main features of the movie, and the way it's described in the script and in my conversations with Jordan, it was fun to think about ways that we could pull features that people would say, "Oh, that's impossible." But, in fact, in the ocean, you find these very exotic creatures that would have these different characteristics.

Sahaquiel can rapidly expand and has a very wide wingspan with an unblocking eye in the middle. Armisael does not have a fixed form and shares a similar fusion effect to Jean Jacket. If stared at for too long, both creatures will attack in their own ways—Jean Jacket through consumption and Armisael through bio-fusion with its host. Evangelion’s Angels look most like the Seraphim, an angelic being that has six wings, two of which are for flying, while the rest are used to cover their heads and feet, and the Ophanim, the most bizarre being as it is made out of interlocking gold wheels with each wheel’s exterior covered with multiple eyes and move by floating themselves in the sky.

SINCERE THAN THE LOVE OF FOOD.

The menu at Buckley's Great Steaks boasts a variety of dishes that are sure to please any palate. Some of their most popular menu items include prime rib, lobster gnocchi, truffle parm fries, and mushroom risotto. Chef Joe and his team take great pride in using only the freshest, most high-quality ingredients in every dish they prepare.

Our menu features 28 days of wet-aged USDA Prime steaks cooked in a 1,500-degree broiler served sizzling hot with clarified butter on plates heated to 450 degrees. At Mastro's we have an array of the freshest seafood selections, like our 2-foot-tall seafood tower of chilled crab legs, shrimp and oysters served over a cloud of dry-ice. Bespoke cocktails are dramatically presented in a haze of dry-ice, the list of world-class wine is extensive, and of course, Mastro’s has a premium selection of beer available. Part butcher shop-part restaurant, Gwen is chef Curtis and brother Luke Stone’s Hollywood meat sanctuary, which earned a Michelin star in 2022 for its overall excellence. The upscale steakhouse has more of a fine-dining feel with dishes like Josper-grilled squid with Thai chile or lobster tortellini leading into dry-aged cuts that are butchered on the premises. The wines and cocktails are also exemplary, but the real differentiator at Gwen is the service.

Restaurant Description

A little over 10 years ago, Chi Spacca became LA’s first meat-curing facility to be certified by the Department of Public Health. This Italian restaurant specializes in bistecca Fiorentina, a 50-ounce dry-aged prime porterhouse. For those intimidated by that massive size, there’s the crostata alla Fiorentina, a prime dry-aged, bone-in New York steak that registers only 36 ounces. Don’t forget to share the famous focaccia di recco to start, a cheesy flatbread perfected by chef Nancy Silverton.

Beverly Grove’s Carlitos Gardel features Argentinian-grilled USDA prime steaks at exceptionally reasonable prices. Opt for the parrillada plate, as it comes with skirt steak, short ribs, sausages, and sweetbreads for a sampling of everything grilled and glorious. One of the things that sets Buckley's Great Steaks apart from other steakhouses in the area is its location. The restaurant is situated near several interesting landmarks, including Merrimack Premium Outlets, Anheuser-Busch Brewery, and the nearby Merrimack River. Part local haunt, part karaoke bar and all steak-y kitsch, Torrance’s The San Franciscan has been dishing shrimp cocktails and signature three quarter pound slices of prime rib since 1963.

This longtime Koreatown staple still serves their ten-ounce sirloin culotte steaks, and sitting in the red naugahyde booths is as fun as ever. In Redondo Beach, this elegant steakhouse does beef exceedingly well with a wood-fried sear on the outside while maintaining a juicy, tender core. Chef Walter Nunez assembles a crowd-pleasing menu of clams casino, gnocchi with lobster, and lamb shank doused in rosemary.

It’s a rags-to-riches-to-rags story that gets a twist when she becomes a den mother to the Zetas. And before we say “see you later,” one can’t help but chuckle remembering the ditzy but lovable role of Carrie Mae, played by Dana Goodman. She brought so much to her character’s goofball antics that it was practically an art form.

This flick has its cheeky moments, with a dollop of adult humor and some skimpy bunny outfits that might make you think twice before a family movie night. It’s rated PG-13 for a reason, so maybe keep the kiddos at bay with “Finding Nemo” one more time. As we reminisce about the “House Bunny” ensemble, we see a picture of growth, change, and an unstoppable drive to create and connect with audiences everywhere. They’ve proven that, while bunny ears might be ephemeral, talent and determination are as enduring as the friendships formed during those days on set. Of course, “Cabaret” is partly a warning about the excess and social blindness represented by pricey tickets and a sexy night out as the world burns. The tender romance between Bebe Neuwirth’s elegant and maternal Fraulein Schneider and the moony-eyed fruit seller Herr Schultz (Stephen Skybell) spins a sweet and aching emotional thread. ” shows an indomitable woman piecing herself back together one trembling note at a time.

It's delightfully painful and full of cringe comedy, but always with empathy for Penny. The production is a hot-ticket escape from a city where police are breaking up student protests and a former head of state is on trial for porn-star bribery. Inside the theater, the denizens of Weimar Germany writhing around this storied den are likewise at least temporarily inured from the political perils pressing on its doors. But in director Rebecca Frecknall’s ravishing and mercilessly introspective production of the 1966 musical by Joe Masteroff (book), John Kander (music) and Fred Ebb (lyrics), no one is safe from the turmoil rattling their psyches.

After her stint as the brains of the bunch, Stone skyrocketed to fame, and, let’s just say, she’s far from needing to refinance her career. She’s got an Oscar, folks, and has conquered both the silver screen and the hearts of fans globally. And, talk about a wardrobe upgrade from those Zeta tees—Stone has graced countless red carpets with the poise of a fashion icon, a far cry from her collegiate cardigans.

All that stripped-down humanity onstage — from the entrails of broken lovers to the dancers’ carnal gyrations (choreography is by Julia Cheng) — make Redmayne’s Emcee a jarring exception. An otherworldly salamander of a narrator, he hunches over, Gollum-like, gnawing on every syllable as if it were his last meal. For the Emcee to exist as a creature apart makes narrative sense, but Redmayne’s remoteness drains some of the force from what is otherwise a grounded, gut-punching take on a disturbingly timely story. In 2018 she starred in Brit action thriller Final Score alongside actors Dave Bautista and Pierce Brosnan. She has also been an ambassador for the domestic violence survivors' charity, Women's Aid, for nine years.

She is a self-flagellating environmentalist who arrives grumpy, sweaty and tired to every other scene. Touching upon ideas of who gets to seek justice and which voices are heard, After The Party has been celebrated for its moral complexity and performances from the cast. This provocative drama follows Penny who loses everything when she accuses her husband of a sex crime against her daughter's teenage friend, and no one believes her.
